British Prime Minister David Cameron stated that migrants who fail language tests after two and a half years in the UK may be forced to leave the country. Cameron’s statement sparked a controversy within the public opinion as the subject of his statement focused on Muslim women in the UK and considered those who speak little to no English to not be an ‘integrated part of society’.
Humera Khan, founder of the group for Muslim women, commented that the Prime Minister is confusing the issue of migration and citizenship to issues of community engagement and empowerment. She continued by saying that speaking little to no English is not an indicator that one is not an integrated part of society.

Nevertheless, David Cameron has launched a 20 million pound language fund and has called for an end to the “passive tolerance” of separate communities which left many Muslim women facing discrimination and social isolation.
